Innovative Solutions
SET is a pioneer in facility design and the implementation of emerging technologies for the separation and composting of Source Separated Organics (residential food wastes) or SSOM. Our Empire Township facility is the largest of its kind in Minnesota and was designed to meet and exceed state and federal regulations. Our team currently receives and processes over 20,000 tons of SSOM annually. SET has been at the forefront of the composting methodology and technology. We current employ several different composting methods at our sites to accommodate different feedstocks and site operating conditions.
Our Experience: Public and Private Partnerships
SET provides composting services to both individuals and state, county and city programs. SET recognizes the importance of high quality, contamination-free feed stock for composting, whether it is from an individual home or the largest municipal program in the Metro area. The quality of the compost feedstock determines the ability to successfully recover and process it into a useable product.
To that end, SET has developed educational materials for residential collection companies and our municipal customers to help outline the acceptance parameters for the compost feedstock. SET works in tandem with our municipal partners to ensure that homeowners have the information they need to prevent contamination and to maximize the success of the respective programs.
Our public/private partnership programs include entities such as:
- City of Minneapolis
- City of St. Louis Park
- Dakota County
- Waste Management
- Republic Services
- Hennepin County
- Carver County
Carver County Organics Facility
In a partnership with Caver County, the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, SET has developed a residential source separated organic materials facility in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Designed in accordance with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency standards, this site is the first of its kind in the Minneapolis metro area that exclusively supports residential collection of organics mixed with yard waste. This site will be the model for residential sourced operations in the future.
